Johann Sebastian Bach wrote his St. Matthew Passion for a sole purpose, to present the Passion story in music at Good Friday vesper services. Bach’s Passion continues to move audiences nearly three centuries after it was first heard in St. Thomas’s Church in Leipzig, Germany. Standing as one of the pillars of Western sacred music, it is at once monumental and intimate, deeply sorrowful and powerful. And you have an opportunity to engage in this emotionally charged performance.

Our very own Quad City Symphony Orchestra will be performing their season finale concert this weekend, bringing us one of Bach’s greatest masterpieces, St. Matthew Passion. Their first show will be on Saturday April 8 at 7:30pm at the Adler Theatre in Davenport. The second show will take place at 2pm at Centennial Hall, Augustana in Rock Island. Tickets can be purchased online at: https://qcsymphony.secure.force.com/ticket/#details_a0Si000000HNHgqEAH.

Two orchestras and two choirs evoke a dialog in the emotionally charged interactions of Jesus and the Evangelist.  Six vocal soloists, two organs, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Quad City Choral Arts, and the Augustana Choir will amass on the concert stages.  To enhance the enjoyment and inspiration of all, St. Matthew Passion will be performed in English.

Do not miss this opportunity to encounter one of the most inspiring and awesome experiences!
