Moline Police Enforcing Safe and Sober Holiday Driving Campaign
Tis the season for friends and family to gather to celebrate holiday festivities and the Moline Police Department is partnering with the Illinois DOT, Illinois State Police and around 200 other local police and sheriff’s department to remind motorists to “Click it or Ticket” and “Drive Sober, or Get Pulled Over” throughout the holidays.
“Driving impaired, whether under the influence of alcohol or drugs, can have catastrophic consequences and is illegal in every state,” said Moline Police Chief Darren Gault. “It’s simple: if you’re going to drink or use other impairing substances, don’t drive.”
Moline officers and their partners in law enforcement everywhere will be stepping up patrols to keep impaired drivers off Illinois roads in an effort to keep everyone safe and sound before and after their holiday celebrations.
The Sober Holiday Driving Campaign will run through Jan. 3
Tips to remember for safe and sober holiday driving:
- Make a plan for a sober ride home before you go out.
- If you’ve been drinking or using marijuana or other drugs, call a ride share, taxi, take public transportation, or call a family member to get you home safely.
- If you see a drunk driver, pull over safely and call 911.
- Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. It is the best defense against an impaired driver.
Holiday enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
