He was reclassified by audit to microcomputer support specialist III in May 1999. McMeekan audited to procedures and systems analyst II in March 2003 and to procedures and systems analyst III in October 2006. He moved to his current position in January 2017.

McMeekan’s nominator described him as someone who is a problem solver, who is always available to help others.

“Even the pandemic did not slow affect the way he maintained the technology systems,” said his nominator. “He met pandemic-specific challenges by ensuring all staff technical requirements were addressed, and the help with facilitating remote working was vital to the office.”

The nominator specifically pointed out McMeekan’s work during the September 2020 incident on campus, where he provided technical support and advice.

“He also helped keep digital evidence secure,” said his nominator. “He makes an impact on University staff, faculty and students by keeping the technological systems maintained, which allows OPS to provide the best possible service to the University community.”

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University’s Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
