Kick off the fall season this weekend with DeWitt’s Great Pumpkin Festival!

This Sunday, Oct 15 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Downtown DeWitt will transform into a festival filled with pumpkins, scarecrows and fun!

Starting at 11 a.m. the Women of Welton will hold a baking contest featuring dishes containing apple, pumpkin or nuts. A bake sale will follow! The Chainsaw Pumpkin Carving Contest also begins at 11 a.m. with a $15 entry fee. The pumpkin will be provided, but you will need to bring your own carving equipment. Don’t forget to vote on your favorite scarecrow, in the Scarecrow Contest! Local businesses and individuals will have scarecrows that they have created, in display. A voting box will be placed alongside each scarecrow, and all you have to do for voting is placing $0.25 in the voting box. You can vote for as many, and as much as you want. At the end of the day, the scarecrow that raised the most money will be declared DeWitt’s Great Pumpkin Scarecrow King or Queen!

Throughout the day there will be kids’ games, food vendors, craft vendors, a fall photo booth, bouncy obstacle area, car show and more! You can also Guess the Pumpkin Weight between 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and stop by the Pumpkin Painting Make and Take area (while pumpkins last).

At 11:30, there will be a Children and Pet Costume Parade down 6th Avenue. The theme is “Fall Harvest” and the entry fee is a canned good to be given to the local pantry. Goodie bags will be given to each participant! The Balloon Drop will begin at noon and the Rhythm Avenue Dancers will perform at 12:15 p.m.

You do not want to miss the Pumpkin Derby Races, which begin at 12:30. Watch as race cars made out of pumpkins compete for speed and creativity! For more information on rules and guidelines, you can visit http://dewittpumpkinfest.wixsite.com/dewitt-pumpkin-fest.
