Awful Daring  is the second photography exhibition at Rozz Tox for Quad City photographer Laura Heath. Her first, Shadows and Shapes in 2017, was so well received she was immediately asked to return for a second show.

The Awful Daring of a Moment’s Surrender is far more provocative with an emphasis on nudes and the human form.  Heath started her photographic journey shooting flowers and insects with her Cannon Power Shot and IPhone.  She has moved on to a Cannon 5D DSLR camera and her interest in vintage clothing and anatomy has taken her work in a new direction.  She now works mostly in black and white, specializing in nudes and portraiture.  Images are mysterious and reminiscent of the 1930s & 40s film noir.  Dark backgrounds and subtle lighting make the subjects jump off the page.

Laura notes that she is inspired by the work of Herb Ritts, Sally Mann, and Edward Weston’s images from the early 1900s.  As she says, “the willingness of my models inspires me, for them to be daring; and being daring makes the photo true art (otherwise it’s just a picture)”.

Heath hopes that people leave with an appreciation of the human form as seen through her lens, and that the graphic simplicity of her images allows the viewer to feel her work instantaneously.

Laura Heath has owned and operated the iconic vintage clothing store Trash Can Annie for the last 21 years.

Following her opening reception, Heath will be launching her webpage on Saturday, July 7th.  Lauraheathphotography.com
