Bridge Your Curiosity With New Putnam EventDoes the construction of the new I-74 bridge over the Mississippi put you in the mood to create your very own bridge? Then why not join the Battle of the Bridges?

The 11th Annual Battle of the Bridge Contest is happening this Friday Mar 2 and Saturday Mar 3 at the Putnam Museum (1717 W 12th Street Davenport)!

Thanks to the Quad City Engineering and Science Council (QCESC), this one of a kind competition showcases “Bridge Efficiency”. Teams of 4 from area Elementary, Middle and High Schools, as well as professionals and families come together to build a bridge in three hours. The tools and materials are provided. After completion, the bridge is weighed, then tested for how much weight it takes to destroy it. The failure weight is divided by the bridge weight, to obtain the “efficiency”.

Friday night’s event is unfortunately already sold out. However, registration is still open for Saturday’s 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. session. To register online, go to http://qcesc.org/battleofthebridges/. Cost is $25 per team. Pizza and drinks can also be pre-ordered online!

This is one family-friendly competition you don’t want to miss!
