A great time for a great cause is on the menu at RIBCO Friday night.

A benefit for the Tappa family starts at 6 p.m. with live music starting at 7 with Jason Stuart’s Cobalt Blue, Barstool Boogaloo/The Velies, The Premium Sellouts and Chrash.

RIBCO is asking for a $10 donation at the door.

The event will include a gift basket raffle, a 50/50 raffle and some great silent auction items up for bid…including FOUR PAIRS of 2017 Cubs tickets, a Quad City Mallards suite for 14 including a $100 snack package courtesy of Genesis Health Systems and an authentic NFL game ball signed by Vikings superstar Adrian Peterson!

tappasThe Tappa family is desperately in need of your help. Back in September of 2013, Martha Tappa was diagnosed with cancer in her thyroid, vocal chords and throat. After multiple surgeries and treatments, Martha slowly started to bounce back, but the medical bills started to stack up. Unfortunately, Martha is not out of the woods yet, as she continues to get 3 month checkups.

Her husband Steve has been by her side until this past August, when he went into the hospital for pneumonia. It was quickly discovered that Steve not only had pneumonia, but congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. Steve has since endured open heart triple bypass surgery and multiple surgeries to alleviate an infection in his sternum. If that wasn’t enough, during the process, a non-cancerous tumor was discovered at the base of Steve’s brain which is affecting his hearing and motor skills. A surgery to remove the tumor is planned after his heart issues are brought under control.

The Tappas are physically, mentally and financially exhausted. All their savings, including a 401k have been depleted. Medical leave is quickly running out. The timing couldn’t be worse as their 17 year old son Michael prepares to go to college next year…soon to be followed by their 13 year old, AJ.

While medical bills continue to grow at what seems to be an insurmountable rate, they are the least of their worries right now. The Tappas simply need money to survive…groceries, mortgage, utilities, gas money…general expenses that most of us take for granted. Martha went back to work part time in May and has tried to support the family as best as she can since Steve fell ill, but making ends meet has become near impossible.

Bottom line, the Tappa Family needs your help. I call upon friends, family, and fellow St. Ambrose alumni, to dig deep into your hearts and your wallets and give what you can. No amount is too small and will make a huge difference in this family’s life. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Please come and show your support for a family in great need.
