A Covid-inspired success from 2020 will return on Tuesday, Aug. 10, as Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse will be back on its marquee for an outdoor show, at 1828 3rd Ave., Rock Island.

You can join the Circa ’21 Bootleggers, the cast of “Saturday Night Fever” and a few special guests as they entertain patrons in a live concert from atop the iconic marquee. Hosted by Circa veterans Brad Hauskins and Tristan Tapscott, the concert will celebrate Circa ’21, its history and feature tunes from the ‘70s disco era and beyond. It will also include a special 2022 announcement you won’t want to miss.

Circa’s Chef Tony will be outside grilling and bar service also will be available. Tickets are $20, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m. There will be cabaret-style seating with tables and chairs set up on a blocked-off 3rd Avenue. Circa had two concerts on the marquee last summer.

“Saturday Night Fever” – based on the 1977 film, starring John Travolta, with a blockbuster Bee Gees-fueled soundtrack – will finally open at Circa on July 14 and run through Sept. 11. It was among the 2020 shows that were canceled or postponed due to the pandemic.

In the story of the musical, anxious about his future after high school, a 19-year-old Italian-American from Brooklyn tries to escape the harsh reality of his bleak family life by dominating the dance floor at the local disco.

The current Circa show, “Beehive: The ‘60s Musical,” will run through July 10.

The next tribute show is a Prince concert, “The Purple Madness,” on July 22 at 7:15 p.m. It is billed as “the ultimate celebration of the most widely beloved entertainer and profoundly influential artist of all time.”

“It is with great honor and utmost reverence that The Prince Tribute Band was formed, and The Purple Madness have perfected every last nuance in recreating the sights and sounds of the artist Prince,” the synopsis says. “Bobby Miller presents an electrifying performance that can be best described as high energy and a ‘must see’ performance.”
