Educator, Kelsey Vandercoy, will be on hand for an in-person presentation all about Japanese art. No registration is required to attend this free event, which will take place at the Bettendorf Public Library located at 2950 Learning Campus Dr. in Bettendorf. The 2021 Global Gathering World Tour series is sponsored by The Bettendorf Public Library Foundation, Quad City Bank & Trust, Morgan Stanley, HNI Corporation, Bettendorf Rotary, and Twin State.

The topic of Japanese art spans a wide range of subjects: classic wood block prints, to modern, vibrant pop art, and the extremely popular culture of anime.  Kelsey will give a brief presentation about Japanese art, followed by a hands-on activity related to the lesson. Several Japanese pieces from the Figge’s outreach collection of objects will be available at the event allowing participants a close-up, physical experience with the art. The Bettendorf Public Library’s biannual Global Gathering series is a two-month celebration of culture, heritage, and tradition. This year’s events, which are available virtually and in person, encompass the globe with its 2021 Global Gathering: World Tour. Special programs, art displays and new check-out materials related to the theme are available at the Bettendorf Public Library.
