There’s nothing quite as refreshing and fun on a summer day than hitting the links and having a few beverage afterwards, and for those playing and watching during the John Deere Classic, running through Sunday at Deere Run Golf Course in Moline, there are plenty of great options to check out local brew pubs.

Bent River, 1413 5th Ave., Moline, is right in the middle of the vibrant downtown Moline scene, which offers a great array of fine local restaurants, the ambiance of the river walk, and of course plenty of clubs and pubs. Bent River has a traditional pub feel, with its massive brass fixtures and brew barrels, and it has a delicious array of drinks, including traditionals, IPAs and intriguing stuff like the famous Jalapeno Ale. Radicle Effect Breworks, 1341 31st Street, Rock Island, has the intimate, place-where-everybody-knows-your-name feel of a neighborhood pub, and located in the midst of college hill, right up the street from Augustana, it features a good mix of ages and folks, from middle-aged couples to college students. Chill and fun, with some of the best and friendliest bartenders in the Q-C, Radicle Effect likewise has a fun mix of flavors, including the new Strawberries and Cream Ale. Big Swing Brew Pub, 113 18th Street, Rock Island, is a newcomer to the scene, just having opened up last year, but they’re in the same spot as the classic Blue Cat Brew Pub, which was the grand old man of the brew pub scene, having opened up in 1993, long before current trends tilted towards brew pubs, and Big Swing offers a lot of the same ambiance and style. Offering excellent food and terrific beverages, Big Swing is a full-service restaurant that goes beyond your typical pub food while also offering award-winning soups and apps with a fine slate of beers like their seasonal Coriander and Orange. Great River Brewery, 332 E. 2nd Street, Davenport, is a great spot just off the arsenal bridge in downtown Davenport that boasts an eclectic blend of traditional and offbeat brews while drawing a young, hip crowd spilling over from other area spots like the Raccoon Motel and Armored Gardens. Wake Brewing, 2925 5th Ave, Rock Island, is the new kid on the block, in a cool corner location on the main drag into Rock Island and a hip ambiance featuring great events like vinyl nights, DJs and more.
