“Cowboy Courage: Westerns and the Portrayal of Bravery” will be offered at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16, at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. Hampes, author of the book “Cowboy Courage,” uses discussion and video clips from film and television westerns to show how courage and lead to, and even enrich, other virtues such as redemption, authenticity, love, friendship, community allegiance, justice, and growing up and growing old successfully. His remarks will explore how different types of courage, (physical, moral, psychological) lead characters towards overcoming personal challenges.

The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Bill Hampes was a professor of psychology for 38 years at St. Michael’s College, Louisiana State University at Eunice, and Black Hawk College, where he is now professor emeritus of psychology and sociology. He has published articles in academic journals on the psychology of humor, as well as travel articles for the Dispatch and Midwest Streams and Trails. He lives in East Moline, Illinois.
